Who

'Hamodia' is the Hebrew word for 'communicator' and we are the primary source of news to a unique community. Observant Jews form a very warm and close-knit community that holds family and spirituality as its core values. The word 'Haredi' means 'God fearing' and much of the lifestyle is based around religious practices.

Aside from being a newspaper, Hamodia is also a standard-bearer for the Haredi view of life and as such promotes family values and spiritual growth. Hamodia is more than just a newspaper. It is the premier source of communication between our community and the outside world, and a fabulous opportunity for commercial advertisers.

Supermarkets often notice the rush of Jewish customers on Thursday evenings, as they wander around with very full shopping trolleys. This is in preparation for Shabbat, the Sabbath, when a weekly 25-hour 'day of rest' is held from sunset on Friday. In keeping with the Biblical tradition, all of the cooking is done before Shabbat begins, and as an average household has seven children, that's a lot of shopping!

The observant Haredi community keeps rules and ancient customs to preserve its integrity and continuity. Everyone dresses modestly and boys and girls are educated and socialise separately. Some secular advertising can be problematic for our community simply because of the excessive use of immodest imagery, but we work closely with agencies to ensure that all communications have maximum impact.

Another great opportunity for marketers who are prepared to do their research nearly all of our readers avoid the national press and indeed the main Anglo-Jewish newspapers, as a means of steering clear of what they consider far too liberal content. It is because Haredi Jews are so protective of their traditional values and lifestyles, that Hamodia is their only choice of media, bar none!

We take a positive and contributory view of our citizenship and play an active role in wider society. Our children are taught to respect the laws of the land. Some observant Jews are businessmen, whilst others are professionals. Some are self-employed because it can be challenging to organise the working week in keeping with the Sabbath and the five main festivals.

What do we do in our spare time? Many men spend much of their spare time learning Torah. Women attend classes on religious topics and parenting and enjoy spending time with their friends and family. Popular family outings are trips to a zoo or theme park, but cinemas or pop concerts would not be on the list.

Hamodia is your gateway to the observant Jewish community.

We'd love you to advertise with us so please ask us any questions you'd like.

What

Hamodia publishes informative, educational and entertaining content relevant and acceptable to the unique strictly ultra-orthodox (Haredi) Jewish community. Under careful stewardship, a style and content mix that is suited to our primarily Haredi readers is delivered every week - in the UK and via international partners in France, the United States and in Israel.

In a media-saturated world it is rare to have an exclusive news source that reaches an entire community, that by self-choice abstains from media consumption. Then again, strictly observant Jews live a unique lifestyle.

WHAT WE OFFER: Hamodia offers gatekeeper access to an audience with several unique lifestyle patterns. More than just a newspaper, we promote a way of life that is based on family values and spiritual growth.

We are the sole access point to a community that shies away from mainstream media culture, avoiding the dangers of immodest images and innuendo found on the internet and opting for a life based on powerful tradition. Parents trust Hamodia as a 'filter' because it is seen as the only 'safe' option.

  • What do Haredi Jews read to ensure they won't see immodest advertising photos?
  • What do Haredi Jews buy to be certain that their children will be exposed to 'approved' values?
  • What's the only newspaper that you will find in 9,000 'Haredi' homes, and is read by 63,000 people on a weekly basis?

Hamodia.

Some figures about the community: *

  • 84% are married
  • 55% of the community have purchased a new car within the last 12 months
  • 60% fly three times a year
  • 75% own their own business
  • 85% own at least one property
  • Average time spent reading one issue - 67 minutes
  • Average time each issue is kept - two weeks
  • 50% of Jewish children are born to Haredi families **

If you advertise in Hamodia, what are your chances of reaching the vast majority of Haredi Jews in Britain? 100%.

Why

It is impossible to reach the Haredi community via traditional media:Although difficult to comprehend for those unfamiliar with how the Haredi community operates, ALL Haredi Jews, by virtue of their faithful commitment to lead a wholesome spiritual life, free of the gratuitous violence and nudity so prevalent in today's media, will neither own a television set, nor have internet access or radio in their homes.

It is also frowned upon to look at any outdoor posters or adshells. Haredi Jews will literally look away to avoid seeing potentially immodest material.

Media consumption is purely on an 'approved' community-run basis only. This means that local Synagogues and communal educational organisations are the sole sources of information on the 'outside' world.

Hamodia is the primary acceptable source of outside information and Hamodia is effectively the only window on national and international news.

Hamodia is the primary credible newspaper that carries advertising to this insular (in-media consumption terms) audience.

Buying power of The Haredi community:
Although a small community when compared to the larger population, it has some unique spending patterns. Because Haredi men and women don't drink in bars and pubs, and because the lifestyle has very limited use of alcohol, a sizable chunk of family budgets are available for other expenditure.

Conservative buying habits means that following fashions in clothes and music is a non-event thus more money is available and spent on travel, education and wellbeing.

hamodia history

Hamodia was founded nearly 100 years ago in Eastern Europe with the active support of the foremost Haredi leaders who were battling rising assimilation that threatened the very foundations of their heritage. They saw a newspaper as a powerful tool in this struggle for survival. In the aftermath of the destruction of these communities at the hands of the Nazis, Hamodia became the voice of the unbowed Torah-true community struggling to rebuild itself on different continents.Hamodia's growth paralleled the incredible resurgence of a vibrant Orthodox community in Israel and America.

The daily Hebrew-language edition emerged as the leading publication for the religious community in Israel since 1950. In 1998, the English-language weekly Hamodia was launched to serve the growing Orthodox Jewish community in America, Israel and Europe and it quickly rose to prominence. Today, Hamodia is the undisputed market leader: a respected publication that reaches hundreds of thousands of Jewish households worldwide through its weekly editions.
